Claim documentation is part of every water damage job we do. We don't work for the company that holds your policy, and we can't tell you what your policy covers. What we can do is give your adjuster the records they need to process the claim.
That starts with photos of the damage before we remove anything, moisture readings taken at marked points, a written description of the cause, and an itemized list of what was removed and why. We log drying readings every day until the job is done.
A typical homeowner policy usually covers sudden water from inside the house, such as a burst pipe or a water heater that rusts through.
Sewer backup and sump pump overflow are often excluded unless you carry a water backup rider. Check your declarations page for it.
Overland flooding from rain or a river usually needs a separate flood policy through the NFIP or a private carrier.
We work with your adjuster directly and send the drying logs and photos. The cause of loss is written down plainly so there is no confusion later.
Call your agent soon after the water shows up. Most policies require prompt notice and reasonable steps to limit further damage, which is exactly what basement water extraction and structural drying do. For contaminated water, see sewer backup cleanup.
